Mustang is believed to be the hidden kingdom which is situated beyond the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif in central Nepal. The journey to Mustang begins with a flight to Jomsom via Pokhara. Two days walk from Jomsom will lead us across the traditional boundary into the wild lunar landscape of Mustang. Mustang though declared open for trekkers is still a restricted area. Thus, there are certain formalities required by government of Nepal in obtaining a special permit.

Day 7Geling (3570m) to Charang (3500m) - Approx time: 7 to 8 hours.Walking amidst numerous small monuments (shortens) of Buddha; this trek perhaps beholds the experience of treading along the driest region of the Mustang valley. The day’s trek finally descends gradually to Charang for an overnight at its Camping ground or at the lodge. B, L D]

Climbing north along the gentle uphill one crosses to a large isolated chorten, then a stream to arrive at the Lola pass (3950m) wherefrom one can catch a breath taking view of the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang. Descending for some time along the sandy slope with crossing a stream one reaches the Lo Manthang fortress where the palace, the gompas and the houses are built like a maze. Overnight at Lo Manthang.B, L D]

Day 9Around Lo Manthang: An ancient settlement in the Mustang valley fortified by an ancient wall, the infrastructure depicts the possessive policy of the ancient kings. Still harbouring a very small population the houses are stone-built while monasteries and religious centres occupy a healthy space of the arid landscape. However, basic accommodation for visitors is available at the part time guest house & camping spots designated outside the old palace.
The stay is enriched by a visit to the four major temples within the city walls, while the four storied palace of the Lo’s King and Queen overlooks the surrounding town from the centre. Equally beautiful are the three storeyed Jampa Lhakhang (the red Thubchen Gompa with a massive assembly hall), the Choday & the Choprang Gompas. Remarkable are the enshrined image of the Buddha in the Jampa Lhak-hang & the wall painting of the Mandala. One can get an insight to the melodrama of nature and culture in perfect indignity (harmony) by hiring a horse & trotting along the environmentally determined landscape. B, L D]
